Week 1

Well, we made it one week. Blake had lots of "firsts" in just this week: first trip to the doctor, first bath, and first car ride. We had a bit of a scare earlier in the week as Blake lost more than 10 % of his birth weight. Turns out he was not getting enough milk from momma, but we solved the issue with supplementing with a small amount of formula. His weight was back up by the end of the week, and his cheeks are already filling out and are quite chubby! Blake was very lucky this first week to have BOTH of his grandmother's here waiting on him hand and foot. Mimi (Grandma Anderson) took on the day shift, while Memaw (Grandma Betsy) was here for the night shift. They were so helpful and supportive, and I don't know how I would have gotten through that first sleep deprived week without them. I don't know how anyone does it without a Mimi and a Memaw! Here are a few pics from his first week.....

First day home from hospital...

Blake's only cousin, Hunter (at least until Thursday when Riley is born!)

First bath! Blake did not enjoy bath time :(
Hangin' out with Grando...
Memaw yapping about something...

Baby Blake is here!

Born Sunday, June 7, 2009 @ 11:55 am, 7 lbs 6 oz, 2o 1/2 inches. I went into labor early Sunday morning. By the time we arrived to the hospital around 7:00 am, I was already dilated 7 cm. By this point I was well ready for an epidural! 2 hours or so later, the relief finally came! Blake was born a happy, healthy baby boy, and mommy survived the birth. Labor was pretty traumatic. I'll just say this: the one word the doctors and nurses kept using over and over was "severe." However, I would do it all over again to have this precious baby in my arms! Now would I do this all over again for another child? I'll have to get back to you on that. At this point the closest thing Blake will have to a sibling will be his cousin Riley (who is due any day now).

Who does Blake look like? I think we have concluded he has Grando's hair (that would be Rusty), Eric's nose, my lips, and definately has Eric's bird legs! I think he has my skin tone as well. Sorry Blake, get used to the sunscreen!

Thanks to everyone for all the well wishes. We are so blessed to be surrounded by such supportive friends and family!

39 week update

And I'm still pregnant! The good news is, the doctor has scheduled a date for me to be induced at 41 weeks just in case I go that long. So, Blake's B-day might be June 15th, but I hope he comes before. I have been on maternity leave from work for one day, and am already stir crazy.

Here is a photo of the father of my child and Rudy the cat. Eric and Rudy have a special bond as you can see....

Still pregnant

We had our 38 week appointment this morning. I am still dilated 4 cm, but still no baby :( Nothing new to report, except I am pretty sure Blake is going to be an only child at this point.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!

A big THANK YOU to all of my friends and family for the baby shower this past weekend! I have to say, it was a little overwhelming, but it was so wonderful to see all my friends and family. My girlfriend Ellen was so gracious to offer the shower at her beautiful new home - thank you so much Ellen! Blake and I pretty much received everything off of the registry, plus a few surprises! Mimi (Grandma Anderson) found a cute Longhorn Lullaby for the room, and Aunt Casey and Aunt Cari sent a handmade growth chart for his first year of life. The biggest surprise of the day was a gift from Blake's Aunt Alana, Aunt Hager, and Aunt Katie (girlfriends from college). They surprised us with a sentimental photo album titled "Lessons From Your Mother." You'll all have to see it! Blake, mom and dad are so grateful to have such supportive friends and family. There is no way we could go through this without you!

The nursery

The furniture for the nursery came in last Thursday - finally! The room is still in progress, but we are getting there. Still looking for wall art that is not too cheesy or girly, and the glider should be in next week. Hopefully we can pull it all together in the next month!
